“Why choose LOPO terracotta?” is best answered with project evidence, not a universal claim. The relevant question is whether LOPO can provide the exact product, finish, system coordination, documentation, production plan and service required for a particular building. A transparent review lets the design and procurement teams make that decision themselves.
Begin with project fit, not brand language
Issue a concise brief stating location, building use and height, facade areas, substrate, exposure, programme and authority requirements. Add elevations, modules, orientation, finish intent, joints, corners, soffits and special pieces. Define design actions, evidence needs, samples and mock-up stages. A supplier can only demonstrate fit against a clear requirement.
Confirm the current legal and commercial entity that will quote, manufacture, receive payment and support corrective work. If affiliates, trading companies, system partners or subcontractors are involved, map their roles. This prevents an archived company name or brand relationship from obscuring contractual responsibility.
Set evaluation criteria before quotations arrive. Architectural suitability, technical evidence, system scope, quality controls, programme, logistics, communication and commercial completeness should be scored separately. Do not use origin, longevity or a “best manufacturer” claim as a substitute for these project measures.
Verify the exact product and its availability
Ask LOPO to identify the current product code, section, face dimensions, thickness, internal geometry, unit mass, tolerances, fixing grooves, finish route, orientation, cut limits and special-piece options. State whether the proposal is standard, a modification of an existing die or a custom development. Tie every item to a dated drawing revision.
Review relevant architectural terracotta products, then request confirmation for the project application. Panel, tile, brick and baguette formats are not interchangeable merely because they are fired clay. Present availability should be confirmed independently from the archived product list.
Require a clause-by-clause evidence response
Create a matrix showing each specification requirement, applicable method, acceptance criterion, submitted document and reviewer. Check product identity, dimensions, finish, specimen, support, laboratory or issuer, date and scope. If a document covers a different profile or assembly, request a written technical basis for applying it.
A statement that a product exceeds “European standards” is incomplete without naming the standard, edition, property, classification and result. Product evidence also does not prove the complete wall. A custom option should have defined tooling, trials, measurement methods, approval ownership and design-freeze dates. Design support is demonstrated by accurate, coordinated responses and controlled revisions, not by the number of possible colours or shapes claimed in general literature.
Clarify system engineering and responsibilities
List the panel, clips, rails, brackets, anchors, substrate, cavity, insulation, membrane, fire barriers and flashings. Identify which elements LOPO supplies, which another system company provides and who engineers the final configuration. Assign calculations, shop drawings, testing, interface review, mock-ups, installation support and inspections.
The facade engineer should assess project wind, seismic demand where applicable, movement and substrate conditions. Open joints need coordinated drainage and ventilation. A visually appropriate panel should not be treated as the sole waterproof, thermal, acoustic or fire-resisting layer.
Check manufacturing, quality and delivery plans
Request a current process and quality plan for the proposed family. It should identify key controls from raw-material preparation through forming, drying, firing, finishing, dimensional inspection, visual sorting and packing. Agree traceability, sampling, calibrated measurements, nonconformance handling and links to the approved sample range.
Capacity and lead time should be calculated for the actual quantity, batches, tooling, approvals, inspections, packing and shipment sequence. Review crate sizes, transport, documents, site access, storage and damage replacement. A historical country count does not show that today’s order has a secured production and delivery route.
Make a documented selection decision
Normalize prices to include products, supports, engineering, tests, samples, mock-ups, specials, tooling, spares, packing, freight, site handling and aftercare. Record assumptions, exclusions, quotation validity and open actions. Use the terracotta supplier checklist to structure the file.
Test the proposed communication route during review. Track response time, drawing accuracy, closure of technical questions and version control. Name authorized contacts and escalation paths across design, production, logistics and site support. Service quality is better assessed through recorded project behaviour than a broad promise.
Before selection, align the quotation, product schedule, drawings, samples, evidence register, programme and responsibility matrix.
