Profile-driven design

Use section geometry to shape the elevation

The profile name describes a family of cross-sectional ideas, not a universal dimension or fixing detail. The chosen geometry must be developed together with the panel span, orientation, joint strategy, extrusion feasibility and support system. Early technical coordination helps keep a strong visual idea buildable.

Light and shadow

Raised and recessed areas change through the day, giving a facade depth without adding a separate decorative layer.

Directional rhythm

Profiles may reinforce horizontal or vertical movement. Orientation affects water paths, joint reading, end conditions and fixing coordination.

Project-specific transitions

Corners, parapets, openings and changes in plane require deliberate detailing. Standard straight modules may need compatible cut pieces or adjacent flat panels.

Compare the profile at panel scale and building scale

A close-up sample explains surface and cross-section; a larger mock-up reveals repetition, joints and shadows. Both views are important when the profile will cover a broad elevation.

Technical development

Confirm extrusion and facade-system feasibility together

Custom section geometry can affect wall thickness distribution, drying, firing, straightness, cutting and packing. It may also change the fixing zone and the loads transferred to the subframe. For that reason, visual sketches should be accompanied by the intended module, span and support concept.

Special-shape terracotta is non-structural cladding. The project engineer and facade consultant remain responsible for wind design, anchors, rails, cavity, membranes, movement accommodation and compliance of the complete assembly.

Manufacturing and custom feasibility

LOPO coordinates terracotta production through three factories and brings more than 20 years of manufacturing experience. Existing special-shape references can guide design, while any requested X, G, B, W or S section must be checked against current extrusion, drying, firing and processing capability. Custom production is confirmed only after technical review, mould or tooling assessment where applicable, and sample approval.
