Lightweight Terracotta Panel Concepts for Project Review
Lightweight panel development aims to reduce individual component mass while preserving the visual qualities of architectural terracotta. The appropriate profile, dimensions, wall build-up and support system must be evaluated together for each project.

Design objective
Reduce mass through coordinated geometry—not assumptions
“Lightweight” is a comparative design direction rather than a single guaranteed specification. Panel weight is influenced by face size, thickness, internal ribs, clay body, firing, cut length and edge processing. Reducing one dimension can affect handling, straightness, fixing zones and structural response, so the final configuration needs technical verification.
Handling and logistics
Lower individual panel mass may assist lifting, packing or installation planning, but the actual benefit depends on the approved panel and the project’s access strategy.
Subframe coordination
Panel geometry and support spacing must be matched. A lighter panel description does not remove the need for engineered rails, anchors and wind-load verification.
Visual continuity
A lightweight concept can still use colour, texture and modular joints to maintain the architectural intent of the wider terracotta rainscreen.
Historical examples—not current standard specifications
Previous materials referenced nominal 10 mm thickness and example formats around 300 × 600 mm and 120 × 600 mm. These figures are retained only as historical examples. They are not confirmation of current stock, manufacturability, tolerances, weight, span or suitability for any building. Current extrusion capability, final dimensions, panel design, test requirements, project loads and the proposed fixing system must all be reviewed before specification or quotation.
