LOPO Architectural Terracotta Facade Project--Second Institute of State Oceanic Administration

This case archive documents yellow terracotta panels and glazed facade zones at a research/office building on the Second Institute of Oceanography campus in Hangzhou.

The institute is now officially named the Second Institute of Oceanography, Ministry of Natural Resources. The replacement preserves the 2019 product and team records while distinguishing the current institution identity from the former State Oceanic Administration name.

Building-identity boundary: the old page calls the photographed structure a comprehensive building integrating office and scientific research. The institute’s current sources confirm a Scientific Research Building at the same campus address, but they do not prove that this is the formal name of the photographed building. The replacement therefore uses a functional description rather than assigning an unverified building name.

Institution identity and address correction

The institute’s current official English site identifies it as the Second Institute of Oceanography, Ministry of Natural Resources. Its official Chinese site gives the address as 浙江省杭州市西湖区保俶北路36号. The old English post’s “Baojiao North Road” is corrected to Baochu North Road.

The archive was published on 23 January 2019 after the institution’s 2018 administrative renaming, but retained the older State Oceanic Administration wording. Publication date is not evidence of facade completion, and no construction or opening year is supplied.

Project-team credits are historical attributions

The old page credits Zhejiang Architectural Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd. as designer and Zhongnan Construction Group under “Construction.” No linked consultant record, contract, package, completion certificate or company project page was supplied, so the credits are retained as LOPO’s 2019 archive attributions rather than independently expanded roles.

The source does not identify the facade consultant, structural engineer, specialist contractor, installer, client representative or LOPO contract scope. It also does not establish whether the named construction group was general contractor for the whole building or responsible for a narrower package.
