Orange terracotta panels can form a strong relationship with glass and metal, but “curtain wall construction” must first be defined for the project. The terracotta may be an outer cladding or rainscreen layer rather than the complete curtain wall. Interfaces, water paths, support, performance responsibilities and evidence need explicit coordination.

Clarify the curtain wall terminology
Project documents should state whether terracotta is fixed to a framed glazed wall, used beside a curtain wall, or installed as part of a separate opaque rainscreen assembly. These arrangements have different interfaces and lines of responsibility. An archive title cannot determine which one is intended.
Name the layers and the party responsible for each: outer facing, clips and rails, support brackets, insulation, cavity barriers, membranes, air and water control layers, glazing, perimeter seals, anchors and primary structure. Coordinated drawings should show how adjacent packages meet without gaps or overlapping assumptions.
Compose orange with glass and metal
Orange fired clay can appear earthy beside low-reflectance glass, brighter next to cool metal or more saturated against a dark frame. Compare current samples with the specified glazing, mullions, spandrel zones, flashings, sealants and other visible components. The relationship matters more than the color name in isolation.
Use elevations to decide whether orange forms a continuous field, a frame around glazing, a vertical marker or a smaller accent. Module direction and joint contrast can reinforce that role. Review the composition at street, approach and distant viewing scales so a vivid material remains proportionate to the architecture.
Resolve corners, openings and interfaces
Develop coordinated details at external and internal corners, window heads, jambs and sills, doors, louvers, soffits, parapets and base conditions. These locations combine color, module rhythm, cut edges, support depth, seals and water management, and often expose differences between trade packages.
Confirm which current profiles or special pieces can form the intended geometry before freezing the elevation. Field alteration should not be the default solution to a mismatched junction. Any change in profile, support, seal or adjoining assembly needs the relevant design and evidence review.

Trace water and control-layer continuity
Water shedding
Coordinate joints, flashings, drips, sills and terminations so the documented outer-wall strategy is continuous.
Drainage route
Show how incidental water is managed at cavities, rails, brackets and interfaces without relying on the facing alone.
Air and water layers
Identify their location, transitions and responsible package at glazing, opaque walls and penetrations.
Inspection access
Define project quality records for critical and concealed junctions before they become inaccessible.
This page does not establish a universal waterproof wall or self-cleaning surface. Whole-wall behavior depends on the exact assembly, interfaces and workmanship. Current drawings, specifications, calculations, tests or assessments must represent the proposed project configuration and its local requirements.
Approve color, profile and joints together
Use fired samples in the exact proposed surface and profile to define the target orange and acceptable variation. Grooves, ribs and curves change shadow; joint depth and backing color change how modules read. A range board should include normal production variation rather than only a single ideal piece.
Review samples under relevant orientations and beside actual glass and metal references. Photography and renderings support composition but cannot replace coded physical approvals. Reassess the appearance if the profile, surface process, adjacent finish or joint treatment changes.
Require evidence for the complete wall
Confirm current dimensions, tolerances, material records, fixing interfaces and traceability for the exact terracotta profile and support components. The responsible project professionals determine loads, connection design, fire strategy, moisture management, movement and other performance requirements for the building and jurisdiction.
The old technical table and broad claims about strength, wind, earthquakes, frost, fire, sound, heat, water and durability do not apply automatically to an orange product or a whole wall. Evidence for an individual panel also cannot stand in for the complete assembly or curtain-wall interface.
Build an evidence matrix that links each project requirement to the relevant current drawing, calculation, test, assessment or declaration. Record the represented component revisions and boundary conditions. Gaps should have an owner and resolution date instead of disappearing between the terracotta, glazing and main-contractor packages.
Prototype and preserve the approved solution
A representative facade mock-up can bring together fired variation, modules, supports, glazing or opaque-wall interfaces, corners, openings and water-management details. Define review and testing scope in advance, then record component codes, sample ranges, drawing revisions and accepted actions.
Where visual and technical mock-ups have different purposes, cross-reference them so a color approval does not accidentally approve an unverified support detail. Any solution developed during the exercise should be carried into coordinated drawings and the evidence register before broader production or installation release.
Connect production lots and delivery labels to the approved references. Retain inspection records, accepted deviations, location data and replacement guidance at handover. Review the terracotta cladding range and terracotta rainscreen project gallery for context, then verify the exact wall system.
