Do not assume the three references share one current body, surface build-up, module or production range. Ask for current labelled samples. Monitor calibration, image compression, lighting and photography can all change perceived tone, while a single sample cannot define allowed variation across a production lot.

Build a colour and material sample brief

Define the target tone

Describe hue, lightness, warmth and contrast using the project palette and physical references. State whether the goal is muted brown, warm orange-brown, red-brown or another direction instead of relying only on “wood color.”

Record surface character

Review sheen, relief, grain definition and hand-feel on a current piece. A photograph cannot establish whether the face feels smooth, textured, matte or glossy under project lighting.

Separate face from body

Label the printed face, clay body, back, cut edge and profile. Confirm which areas remain exposed at joints, openings, corners and terminations and whether their colour is intended to contrast.

Coordinate edges and returns

Request current section details and physical corner/return samples. Define cuts, mitres if available, factory edges, exposed cavities, closures and interfaces without treating the hero image as a fabrication drawing.

Set an acceptable range

Approve a dated range rather than one ideal piece. Record permitted hue, value, grain contrast, sheen and surface variation and how the production lot will be compared with that range.

Review joints and scale

Mock up the intended module, joint width/color, grain direction, adjacent materials and viewing distance. Joints interrupt the wood image and can change whether the composition reads as panels or continuous grain.

Use a staged physical approval process

  1. Archive shortlist: use PW626, PW627 or PW625 only to identify an initial visual direction.
  2. Current labelled sample: obtain the exact item, body, finish, dimensions or profile reference, sample date and production status.
  3. Face/body review: compare face, back, edge, cavity/profile and any cut or return treatment under relevant lighting.
  4. Range set: review enough pieces to establish acceptable colour, grain, sheen and surface variation.
  5. Joint/corner mock-up: assemble representative full-size units with the proposed orientation, joint, fixing concealment and adjacent materials.
  6. Production benchmark: retain signed samples or a range board and agree how the current lot and replacement units will be assessed.

Coordinate samples with current system evidence

A wood-design terracotta unit works with clips, rails, brackets, anchors, joints, cavity, insulation, air-and-water control layers, flashings, fire stopping and the supporting wall. Colour, touch and edge approval cannot replace facade engineering or compliance review.

Define structural actions, wind, impact, moisture, fire, thermal, acoustic, movement, durability, access, cleaning and applicable-code requirements for the actual configuration. Use current product data, calculations, details, samples and project-specific testing where required. Do not claim that the appearance is identical to timber, fade-proof, non-combustible, weather-proof, maintenance-free or environmentally preferable without applicable current evidence and a stated scope.

Archived application claims need a current review

The opening 2016 statement described curtain-wall and interior-wall use. Its application list also marketed the product for new and renovated exterior walls; metro, railway, tunnel and other underground projects; European- or American-style architecture and villa walls or roofs; ceilings; office buildings and commercial podiums; interior walls; and surgery rooms, clean rooms, pharmaceutical facilities and food-production workshops.

That list is preserved as historical context, not approval evidence. Each use needs its own review of substrate, exposure, fixing, movement, structural actions, fire strategy, enclosure details, access, hygiene or emissions criteria, cleanability and governing codes.
