Terracotta facade archive for a Luban Prize project
The formal award record identifies the work as the China Children’s Science and Technology Training Base, now associated with the China Soong Ching Ling Youth Science and Culture Exchange Center. This page separates the project’s construction award from LOPO’s archived terracotta product contribution.

How the project identities connect
The award uses the construction title “China Children’s Science and Technology Training Base.” A 2017 Beijing housing and urban-rural development record gives the same construction title, address, floor count, height and 80,802 m² gross floor area. It also describes five operating units, including a youth experience venue, arts training center, kindergarten, Future Theatre and international exchange camp.
The current institution uses the name China Soong Ching Ling Youth Science and Culture Exchange Center. These records support connecting the construction title to the operating center, but they do not make the LOPO post’s 5 January 2018 publication date a design, completion or award date. The award decision is dated 31 October 2017 and was published in November 2017.
Project record
The Beijing government page identifies China Construction First Group as the applicant/executing unit and records the building’s address, scale and program.
Award record
The official decision, reproduced by Xinhua, identifies the project, award cycle, main contractor and participating units. It does not list a material brand as an award recipient.
Supplier archive
The 2018 LOPO page supplies the product codes, sizes, facade-use description and nine images. Those supplier-side facts are retained with their date and evidence limits.
Nine-image project record
All original images remain in their historical order and open at full resolution. The third image is the archived Luban Prize plaque: it names the formal construction project and China Construction First Group Corporation Limited as the main contractor. The other images document the exterior form, terracotta-clad volumes, vertical elements and the site from multiple viewpoints.
Dated facade product record
The 2018 LOPO archive says terracotta panels were used on the main building and Future Theatre, while terracotta louvers were used on the kindergarten facade. It lists two products and two sizes in parallel order; the pairings below follow that ordering and should be checked against surviving schedules or samples before any replacement order.
Terracotta panel
Archived item F3020768, listed at 300 × 900 × 20 mm. Current code status, colour, surface, tolerances, joint profile and replacement compatibility are not established by the old article.
Terracotta louver
Archived item T40100768, listed at 40 × 100 × 900 mm. “Louver” is retained from the source; current baguette geometry, reinforcement, fixing and support conditions require project records.
Curved-panel coordination
The supplier archive reports 35 curved panel types and attributes mould development and site technical coordination to LOPO. No signed supply, design or installation scope was provided, so this is a dated LOPO-side attribution only.
The Beijing government record independently notes innovation in the integrated terracotta panel-and-rod facade construction technique. That statement supports the presence of a coordinated terracotta facade, but it does not identify LOPO as the designer, installer or award recipient.
What this award and archive do not prove
- The Luban Prize is a construction-project distinction. It is not a CE mark, test report, product certification, warranty or approval of every terracotta component.
- The official recipient list does not name LOPO. The supplier archive alone does not establish LOPO’s contractual scope, facade design responsibility or installation role.
- The nine images and 2018 product fields do not establish current availability, identical colour, replacement fit, support details or performance for another project.
- The old article’s broad environmental, recycling, energy and safety statements were removed because no project-specific assessment, test or certificate was supplied.
- Ambiguous investment figures in the old translation were not republished. Use the owner’s approved project and as-built records for cost, programme and procurement history.
