To verify a Chinese terracotta panel manufacturer, establish who will make, test, sell and warrant the proposed product today. A factory photograph, old catalogue or “best manufacturer” label cannot answer those questions. Build a dated evidence chain from legal entity and production site to the exact profile, current capacity, quality records and shipment plan.

Put the archived “best” claim in context

The original 2014 LOPO page called the company China’s best terracotta panel manufacturer. It supplied no independent ranking, defined market, metric or period. The article also mixed a named 300 × 1200 × 30 mm item with performance data for a 300 × 600 × 18 mm panel and listed plant dimensions, storage and equipment without current verification.

Treat the title and figures as historical self-description only. The page’s environmental, permanent-colour, self-cleaning, waterproof, wind, seismic, thermal and acoustic statements do not prove a current product or wall assembly. Supplier qualification should start again with the present order, requirements and responsible entities.

Map the legal and commercial entities

Record the registered company that owns the factory, the brand owner, exporter of record, quotation issuer, contracting party, invoice issuer, payment beneficiary and warranty provider. They may be the same entity or a documented chain. Ask for current registration and addresses, and verify them through appropriate official or independent channels in the relevant jurisdiction.

Explain any trading company, group company or subcontracted process. A capable exporter can add value, but the buyer should know who controls tooling, production release, tests and corrective action. Match company names across the quotation, certificates, reports and bank documentation; resolve discrepancies through verified business contacts before commitment.

Verify the manufacturing site and current scope

Request a dated site profile and process map from raw-clay receipt through body preparation, forming, drying, firing, finishing, inspection and packing. An independent audit or live, date-confirmed walkthrough can sample the named site, equipment identification, operators, laboratory and storage. Pre-recorded promotional footage alone is weak evidence.

Ask what is performed in-house and where outsourced work occurs. “Annual capacity” may be theoretical; obtain available capacity for the quoted profile and delivery window, current workload, tooling time, batch size, bottlenecks, maintenance and contingency plan. Connect each statement to an owner and dated record rather than relying on building area or kiln length.

Match product evidence to the quoted profile

Freeze the proposed body, section drawing, dimensions, internal webs, finish, colour range, orientation, support zones and unit mass. Then create an evidence index listing specimen identity, production site, sampling, method and edition, laboratory, date, result and acceptance criterion. Reports for a different thickness, finish or fixing arrangement need a documented relevance assessment.

Confirm applicable classifications and standards with the facade professional and authority having jurisdiction. A current full-size sample and first-off extrusion help verify geometry; a representative visual range establishes appearance. Product data does not replace project calculations or assembly evidence for wind, impact, fire, weather and anchors.

Read certificates within their real scope

For any management-system certificate, check certificate number, legal entity, site, certified activities, issue and expiry dates, certification body and accreditation. ISO states that ISO 9001 defines requirements for a quality-management system. It is not, by itself, certification that a particular terracotta panel meets the project specification.

Verify accredited certificates through the certification or accreditation body or a recognized database where available. For test reports, ISO/IEC 17025 addresses laboratory competence, impartiality and consistent operation. Check that the relevant method falls within the laboratory’s accredited scope; accreditation does not make an unrelated specimen or method acceptable.

Trace one order through the quality system

Ask the supplier to demonstrate how an approved drawing becomes production instructions and records. Follow raw-material or body batches, die and line, drying and kiln data, dimensional checks, appearance sorting, nonconformance, release and pallet labels. Review examples with sensitive commercial details redacted if necessary.

The important question is what happens when a result fails. Look for segregation, investigation, authorized disposition, corrective action and traceable remake. Define notification and approval for changes to clay body, die, profile, finish, plant, process or sub-supplier. Retained samples and lot-linked records should preserve the approved benchmark.

Test delivery and support against the programme

Build a dated route from sample and tooling approvals through engineering, tests, production lots, sorting, packing, inspection and shipment. Identify export documents, packing standards, pallet coding, loading responsibility and the agreed commercial delivery term. A port name and generic lead time do not define duties, risk transfer or arrival certainty.

Verify the proposed engineering and communication team, time zones, languages, drawing turnaround and escalation contacts. For project references, confirm location, completion date, supplied scope, comparable profile and an independent contact where feasible. A reference list shows experience only after identity and relevance are checked.

Review current terracotta rainscreen products and check relevant experience in the project gallery, then score only current evidence received for the proposed order.
