“Clay floor brick tile” can refer to very different fired-clay units. A useful specification first classifies the product, then connects geometry, traffic, exposure, evidence, installation and quality control. A legacy sales table can inform questions, but it cannot authorize a current order.

Archive boundary: the 2013 table described a natural-clay floor tile at 100 × 200 × 50 mm, packed in cartons on pallets for floor paving. It paired that data with generic acid-resistant, antibacterial, heat-insulation, non-slip, firebrick and wear-resistant claims and an incomplete “GB/T19001-2000/ISO9001:200” reference. Every dimension, use, property and certificate must be verified for the current product.

Classify the product before specifying it

Ask whether the current item is a paving brick, bonded floor tile, quarry-type tile or another fired-clay unit. Record its current code, material description, manufacturing route, intended applications and installation method. Similar plan dimensions can conceal major differences in thickness, rear profile, mass and supporting construction.

Request a revision-controlled drawing showing nominal and actual dimensions, tolerances, squareness, warpage, edges and unit mass. Confirm whether the archived 100 × 200 × 50 mm geometry remains available. If the product is proposed for replacement work, compare it directly with a retained site unit and document differences rather than relying on a matching name.

Translate the application into requirements

Use and loading

Identify pedestrians, carts, vehicles, furniture, concentrated loads and any impact or abrasion expected in service.

Water and contaminants

Define rain, washing, tracked moisture, food, oils, salts, cleaners and drainage conditions rather than calling the floor simply “outdoor.”

Climate

State saturation and freeze–thaw exposure, solar heating and other local conditions that affect the complete installation.

Access and safety

Coordinate gradients, thresholds, stairs and slip criteria with the project’s accessibility and safety requirements.

Separate zones when their conditions differ. A dry interior lobby, an exposed plaza and a service yard should not inherit one generic acceptance line. Product selection and the supporting floor design should respond to the most demanding credible conditions in each defined zone.

Create an exact-product evidence matrix

List each required property, applicable test or declaration, acceptance criterion, specimen identity and reviewer. Depending on the project, the matrix may address dimensions, breaking or compressive behaviour, wear, water absorption, freeze–thaw, slip, chemicals, staining and reaction to fire. Only include properties that are relevant and supported.

Do not translate “fire floor brick” into a refractory or rated-assembly claim. A current fire classification for the exact unit, where required, has a defined method and scope. The complete floor can also contain combustible or temperature-sensitive layers. Likewise, “antibacterial,” “non-slip” and “acid-resistant” need named methods, conditions and results before use.

Review report date, laboratory, standard edition, product code, body, thickness and surface. A management-system certificate concerns organizational processes; it does not establish product performance. Track missing or mismatched documents as open actions rather than filling gaps with boilerplate.

Detail the whole floor assembly

The design team should define structure, screed or bedding, waterproofing when needed, drainage, adhesive or mortar, joints, movement accommodation, perimeters and transitions. Confirm that the installation materials and method are compatible with the current clay unit, substrate, moisture and temperature conditions.

Set substrate acceptance criteria for strength, curing, moisture, cleanliness, flatness and slope. Show movement and construction joints on the drawings and carry them through the finish as designed. Resolve door clearances, drains, access covers, stairs and adjacent finishes before procurement fixes the thickness.

Use project-specific instructions from the responsible manufacturers and qualified trades. A general archive table cannot define bed depth, adhesive coverage, joint spacing, waterproofing or commissioning. These decisions belong to the approved system documents and local requirements.

Approve appearance and workmanship

Review several current fired samples for colour, texture, edges and natural variation. Establish the accepted range, joint colour and blending method. Retain labelled control samples with product and batch references; one photograph cannot serve as the appearance standard.

Build a representative mock-up showing bond, joint width, cuts, transitions, lippage, slope and cleaning. Include any sealer or treatment and allow it to cure before approval. The accepted panel becomes the benchmark for factory blending and site workmanship, not a substitute for the technical criteria.

Control supply and installation records

Define factory checks for dimensions, squareness, warpage, surface, shade range and edge damage, including sampling and nonconformance procedures. At delivery, record batches and quantities, inspect damage and keep units dry and protected under the approved storage plan. Distribute batches deliberately across the intended areas.

Site records should cover substrate acceptance, weather conditions, materials, installation areas, inspections, protection and cleaning trials. Pause when the delivered unit, colour range or documents depart from the approval package. Early decisions are less costly than removing completed paving.

Issue a traceable order and handover

Align code, drawing, finish, evidence, samples, floor build-up, layout, quantities, cuts, wastage basis, specials, spares, packing, delivery sequence and programme. Verify current carton and pallet information. Separate unit supply, installation materials, testing, mock-ups, freight and site work so the complete commercial scope is visible.
