A V-shape back-fixing accessory cannot be selected from silhouette, item number or aluminum material alone. Its angles, legs, contact faces, holes or slots, orientation and tolerances must be matched to one exact facing, support and engineered load path. A visually similar V is not an equivalent component.

Archive boundary: the 2013 record identified item 8901 as aluminum and broadly listed terracotta, marble and ceramic applications. It supplied one image but no complete drawing, alloy, temper, finish, tolerances, compatible-component schedule, capacity, test scope or installation criteria. None of those missing fields may be inferred.
Engineering boundary: use only within a complete, traceable system matched to the exact facing, back geometry, rail or support, fasteners, anchors, substrate, project actions, movement, fire strategy and environment, and approved by responsible qualified project professionals. This archive provides no universal load, span, spacing, edge distance, anchorage or installation instruction.

Describe the V as controlled geometry

Obtain a current item code and revision-controlled drawing with both leg dimensions, included angle, thickness, bends or radii, contact faces, holes, slots, edges, orientation, handedness, mass, alloy, temper, finish and all relevant tolerances. Confirm whether 8901 remains current or has been superseded.

Define what each leg contacts and whether the V supports, restrains, locates, adjusts or separates another part. Identify which surfaces are functional and which merely provide clearance. A generic name such as “V accessory” does not state the component’s role, direction or installed condition.

Use durable part identification or controlled packaging and lot records to preserve revision identity after cartons are opened. If geometry, material source, fabrication or finish changes, reopen compatibility and evidence review before affected parts enter the project.

Match every interface to the exact system

Facing

Match product code, back feature, edge condition, contact geometry, manufacturing tolerance and permitted movement.

Support

Confirm rail, bracket or mating profile code, fit, slot geometry, adjustment and revision.

Fasteners

Identify approved type, material, finish, geometry, access and responsibility within the engineered system.

Upstream path

Continue through brackets, anchors and substrate without treating the V accessory as their design basis.

Do not transfer compatibility among terracotta, marble and ceramic because the archive names all three. Their back geometry, edge behaviour, mass, tolerances and support evidence can differ. Approve only the exact combination represented by current coordinated documents.

Draw the project-specific load path

The facade and structural design should show how applicable project actions pass from the facing through the V-shaped component and support to the building. It should distinguish support, restraint and movement functions and address relevant boundary conditions, combinations and local zones through qualified engineering.

No force, capacity or fixing arrangement can be read from the image, V angle or aluminum label. Calculations, tests or assessments must identify the exact component revision, facing, engagement, fasteners, supports and boundary conditions. Differences from the proposed system remain open until reviewed.

Resolve contact and tolerance without improvisation

Combine facing, accessory, support, bracket, anchor, substrate and survey tolerances. Check nominal and limiting conditions, contact, clearance, adjustment, engagement and movement. Confirm that correcting one interface does not reduce another below the approved range.

Coordinate fields, corners, openings, returns, bases, parapets and replacement zones. Do not permit unapproved bending, grinding, drilling, slot extension or packing to make the V fit. A site alteration changes geometry and potentially the evidence; return it through controlled design review.

Verify material and exposure compatibility

Confirm current alloy, temper and finish records, fabrication route and protection. Schedule contact with rails, fasteners, anchors, facings, membranes, sealants, separators and nearby metals. Review moisture, drainage, contaminants and isolation for the actual concealed or exposed location.

Packaging, transport, storage and construction debris can affect functional surfaces. Use current approved handling and cleaning information. “Aluminum” does not establish durability or compatibility in every environment, and an added separator must itself be a defined component in the tolerance and load path.

Require matched evidence and a trial assembly

Create a submittal matrix for component drawing, material records, calculations, tests, fabrication checks, compatible-part schedule, installation documents and inspection criteria. Verify revisions and scope. Record mismatched facing, support, fastener, material or boundary conditions as unresolved.

Use production-intent parts in a representative assembly to review fit, contact, tolerance, adjustment, access, sequence and replacement. A successful fit-up demonstrates coordination only; it does not create a structural capacity or authorize installation parameters outside the engineered system.

Include at least one project-relevant non-typical interface where the responsible team identifies higher coordination risk, such as an opening, return or closure. Record component revisions, facing and support codes, measured fit, visible contacts and unresolved actions. If the trial uses altered or hand-selected parts, label that limitation rather than treating it as production proof.

Preserve identity through installation and handover

Set project hold points for receiving identity, support acceptance, component orientation, contact, fasteners, adjustment, movement and concealed-work inspection. Record lots, installed zones and approved deviations. Quarantine unmarked, damaged, altered or substituted pieces before concealment.

Define how inspectors distinguish this V-shaped part from adjacent or earlier revisions after distribution. Use current drawings and labelled samples at the preinstallation review. Preserve photographs or signed records at the points required by the project quality plan, especially where later panels conceal the component and prevent direct reinspection.

Use the terracotta rainscreen range and project references only as system context. Handover should retain approved drawings, engineering evidence, inspections, as-built locations, replacement procedure and traceable spares.
