A 30 mm terracotta panel label does not prove that an aluminum clip fits its cavity or groove. Compatibility exists only within one identified assembly whose panel profile, clip, rail, fasteners, supports, tolerances, exposure and project evidence have been coordinated and approved.

Archive boundary: the 2013 page identified item “Clips 1-1,” aluminum material and use for a 30 mm terracotta panel. The name, thickness label and photograph are historical descriptors. They do not confirm current availability, dimensions, alloy, temper, finish, capacity, durability, fasteners or compatibility with any present product.
Engineering boundary: the exact panel cavity or groove, clip, rail, fasteners, brackets, anchors, substrate, environmental exposure, project actions and evidence must be reviewed by the responsible qualified professionals. This archive supplies no universal load, span, spacing, edge-distance, anchor or installation instruction.

Replace the 30 mm label with exact identities

Record current codes and revisions for the panel, clip, rail, fasteners, brackets, anchors and support substrate. Confirm whether Clips 1-1 remains current or has been superseded. Keep drawings, quotations, samples, calculations and orders on the same configuration.

Nominal thickness is only one characteristic. Panels carrying the same label can differ in back profile, cavity layout, internal webs, groove geometry, edge condition and tolerances. Do not approve a clip because it appears to engage a convenient sample or resembles an archive photograph.

Create a component schedule that shows proposed, reviewed and released status. Cross-reference each code to its current drawing and evidence so a legacy item number cannot survive in procurement after the technical configuration has changed. Resolve mismatches before parts are ordered.

Map the panel cavity and clip interface

Panel profile

Identify exact section, cavity or groove, internal webs, orientation, permitted contact zones and production tolerance.

Clip geometry

Identify current mating faces, engagement features, handedness, adjustment function, dimensions and tolerances.

Interface limits

Show the approved fit across relevant tolerance conditions without inferring values from a photograph.

Inspection basis

Define what can be seen or measured and who accepts the interface before it becomes concealed.

Use coordinated sections at fields, corners, openings, bases, parapets and movement zones. If the intended engagement cannot be achieved, the response should be a controlled design review—not grinding, drilling, bending or packing on site.

Match the clip to rail and fasteners

Define how the clip connects to the named rail or support profile and which fasteners belong to that interface. Record orientation, material, finish, access and adjustment function in the approved system documents. Similar-looking rails or screws are not automatically interchangeable.

Continue the interface schedule through brackets, anchors and substrate without implying that the clip determines their design. Assign responsibility for each connection and for the complete load path. A procurement description should not leave a gap between facing and structural packages.

Coordinate tolerances and intended movement

Combine panel-production, clip, rail, bracket, survey and substrate tolerances rather than checking each item alone. The project team should identify the approved adjustment range and confirm that variation does not reduce required engagement or create unintended restraint elsewhere.

Movement functions and clearances must come from current project engineering. A component that fits at nominal dimensions may fall outside its assessed configuration at tolerance extremes. Document assumptions, inspection points and the route for escalating any departure.

Review aluminum identity and exposure

Confirm the current alloy, temper, finish and fabrication route using traceable records. Review contact with the rail, fasteners, panel, membranes, sealants, cleaners and neighboring metals for the actual exposure. Address isolation, moisture traps and surface damage through the complete system design.

Define handling and receiving criteria for geometry, finish and identification. Unapproved pieces should be segregated, not accepted because their material is described generically as aluminum. Link delivered lots to the approved component revision and installed facade zones.

Include sheltered, exposed, coastal, industrial or other relevant project conditions in the material review rather than describing the environment generically. Current durability evidence and detailing should address the named exposure and complete connection; the word aluminum alone supplies no service-life conclusion.

Use matched evidence and a representative assembly

Build an evidence matrix connecting project criteria to calculations, tests, assessments, drawings and material records that name the relevant panel, clip, rail, fasteners and boundary conditions. Evidence for another panel profile or support configuration cannot be transferred without formal review.

Where required, assemble production-intent components to review fit, tolerances, access, sequence and inspection visibility against predetermined criteria. A successful fit-up can expose coordination issues, but it does not independently establish structural capacity or universal compatibility.

Control change, installation records and handover

Carry approved item codes into orders, packaging, delivery checks and project hold points. Record lots, drawing revisions, inspected zones and approved deviations. Any change to panel, clip, rail, fastener, finish, supplier or substrate should reopen the affected compatibility and evidence review.

Retain as-built identities, calculations, evidence, concealed-work records, access information and traceable spares. Review the current terracotta rainscreen range and project references only as context before exact system verification.

Handover records should identify the installed component by facade zone and explain the approved inspection or replacement route. Unlabelled spare clips are not automatically suitable future replacements. Confirm their current revision, material and system status before any later use.
